5 Of The Best Ikea Rast Hacks!

Posted on 24th March 2020

I love Ikea. Regulars on my blog or Instagram will know that by now, as I rave about it frequently, and have an unhealthy obsession with buying their faux eucalyptus stems every time I go into an Ikea store.

But what I really, really love about Ikea, is its versatility, the hacks. Ikea are SO good at creating something basic, and allowing you to make it your own. Upcycle it, hack it, however you want to call it, Ikea furniture lets you do it. The Rast chest of drawers is a perfect example of this, and you can see the Rast Bedside Table Hack I did further below. As this hack proved so popular, I thought I would share with you some other amazing Ikea Rast hacks I have come across, to get your creative juices flowing!

First of all, let me give you a little bit of context of what I'm taking about with this weird word 'Rast'. The Rast is the name of a small chest of drawers from Ikea which is part of their basic, untreated pine range. At just £25, it is the perfect budget piece of furniture for getting down and DIY dirty with. That is why you'll find hundreds of these unique beauties all over Pinterest.

And now for the good stuff....

The Mid Kiff House Blog

I love the simplicity of this bedside table created by the Mid Kiff House Blog, and how they have stained the wood so you can still see the natural grain. check out their blog for the full details of this Ikea Rast hack.

Well, I cant not include my own Rast hack can I! I love the quality of the paint used on these, it makes them look a lot more expensive than they actually are. You can read all about how I made these over on my Ikea Rast Hack blog post.

This Rast hack is a fab example of keeping the original wood but jazzing it up with a design on the front. I also love how effective it looks by adding cute little legs to it. You can read about the full make over hack on the Hawthorne and Main blog.

Strictly speaking this one isn't a Rast and is actually a Tarva, however Kristi Murphy has listed the Rast along with several other Ikea units that could be used to create this exact same look. What I love about this hack is that it was inspired by a much pricer version and she has successfully create her own beautiful budget friendly replica. Make sure you visit the Kristi Murphy blog to see the video of how it was created.

Cherished Bliss

This fab Rast hack has been created by Cherished Bliss and was designed to have a plank look effect on the drawer fronts. I love how a very simple technique has completely transformed this piece of furniture to make it almost unrecognisable from its original look, with a kind of industrial feel. Have you up cycled any Ikea furniture before? Let me know in the comments below, I'd love to see!
